White Horse Project and 2/3 day Walking/bike trail Updates - Jo Sutherland

White Horse Project - It is wonderful to be working with local tradesmen on the White horse project - I caught up with Des McMaster who is working with Rollinson Engineering Services Limited to make the tables for up at the White Horse. They have very kindly donated 1 of the 4 tables to the project.

Robert White and his team from Native Tree Planting Services is helping with the planting program. We are looking to source all our plants locally as far as we can. Rotary and the team are doing a great job at clearing all the gorse and broom away from the site. I am working alongside Karen Beker, Sue Francis and Sue Hanham who have been a great help with sourcing information, images, editing for the boards up at the White horse.

Spring is in the air so work will begin on the platforms this month.

2/3 day Walking/bike trail - Hamish and I have had some very positive meetings with landowners and working with them to see where the track can go. We are working on the final feasibility stages on the track through the gorge to the Whaio Forks hotel. There is a huge amount of history through this area taking in the old railway to the Moa swamp and finally the stunning limestone rock formations which then join back onto the old railway to the Forks. With what I have seen so far it is going to be a great educational attraction for Waimate and a wonderful track for all the community to use.

Hamish and I are working on the final leg of the Waihao River North Branch section.
