White Horse Redevelopment - Stage one
The White horse project stage one is complete after a lot of community hard work.
To date we have all the security cameras installed and working. All the clearing of the gorse and broom has been completed by various community groups and with cldp resources. The platform construction is now underway, this is being done by a local builder.
The repair of the horse happened at the beginning of the year. Now the weather has warmed up, painting of the White horse monument is underway.
Resene paint has very kindly donated all the paint for the white horse monument - it will be the first large monument in New Zealand that will glow in the dark!
Drainage has been laid around the White horse monument in preparation for the new pathways and planting.
The toilets are being installed by a local earthmoving contractor this month.
Local joiners and engineers have made 4 wonderful outdoor tables. The Lions group are making some wooden seats. These are mostly paid for by CLDP but there is some community voluntary contribution also.
The information panels have been well researched by local historians and information has been gathered from the local museum. Local photographers have been asked to provide modern day images to go on the panels.
Planting is underway and the first 200 native grasses have been planted. We will be planting over 9000 plants which will make this area a stunning attraction for Waimate and a lovely place to visit for the community. The native plants have been specially selected for the dry arid conditions and will attract more native birds back to the area.
